Crown Vic Interceptor To Die In 2011. Or Not. | The Truth About Cars
A Crown Vic gets 17 city – a diesel Taurus might get 25 city. That’s a 50% increase. I’d imagine the average cruiser is on the road most of the day – a 50% cut in gas consumption could easily make up for the initial price difference. ….. They could be and I’d be willing to bet the total cost of ownership would be less than the CV. In addition, I’d rather have my taxes used to buy American made cars like a Camry or an Accord rather than some foreign POS Crown Vic. …  read more…

Resolved Question: I wanted a wrangler.. then I expanded my options… then I lost my mind! So many choices. Please help!~?
Ok, so I started out determined to buy myself a Jeep Wrangler. Then I conveniently hit a deer and totaled my car. Which was really a blessing because I’m getting $2k more for it than I would trading it in and I don’t have to pass a total lemon onto someone else. But now I really need to speed up my little search and make a freaking decision! I had a 2000 Mazda Millenia. It had it’s good points, but it took premium gas and was OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive to try to fix anything. The more I think about getting a Wrangler… as much as I want one, I think I might try to get something a little more versatile. So then I started considering small trucks and SUV’s… and then I lost my mind. This is so hard!

-I am going to buy a used vehicle under $10,000. I would like to stay under $8,000 and find a great deal… I can dream! I want something under 100,000 miles too because I plan on keeping it for a good while.

-I don’t think I will be happy with a 4cyl unless it just has a ton of $h1t and git to it. I would like to find a decent 6cyl but I will consider 4cyl.

-I would like to get close to 20mpg hwy. NO PREMIUM gas!

-I live on a 3200 acre ranch, so inevitably, no matter how many trucks we have, I always end up having to drive my car across the pasture for some reason or another and I would like something that has a little better clearance than your average car and 4WD would be AMAZING just so I don’t tear it up. I also have to run errands to get horse feed etc, and getting 80lb sacks out of the truck of my car has not been my favorite activity.

-I have a big dog that I love to take with me, but I don’t like his dirt/hair/slober to be right on top of me, so I was thinking of trying to get an SUV or truck that he can have his own space. I’m very “outdoorsy” and go to the lake, woods, river etc a lot. I’m not planning on doing any serious offroading, but me and my dog get dirty. lol I have no kids.. and don’t plan on having any for several years.

-I drive back and forth from Ohio to Oklahoma (1000 miles) about 5 times a year. Comfort and reliability and at least enough room for 2 peoples luggage is a must (hence why I’m not considering wranglers as much anymore).

-There is a good chance I will be moving cross country in the next few years (no furniture to move really). The most room for the mpg the better… or maybe the capability of pulling a small U-haul.

-Yes, I know how to do my research… and I have done a ton of it… but I am still lost. I use msn reliability ratings, I have an unlimited carfax account, kbb, fueleconomy.gov… you name it, I use it.

I looked at a 2003 Jeep Liberty last night. The price and milage on it are great!!! It doesn’t have the best maintenance records, but no accidents. Has a few flaws, but nothing major. It is a private seller. I like the look. MPG is okay. Has 4×4. The test drive was okay. The seats kinda suck.

I found a 2004 Toyota Rav4 online. Price and milage just within my acceptance, but good for it’s actual value. 4cyl… only 2 wheel drive. Very cute. Excellent maintenance records and 1 owner. I’ve never driven one? Don’t know what to expect from it? Should I go see it?

I can’t find any Honda CRV’s within 300 miles or I would check one out. I live in a really really rural area… so it’s a 2 1/2 hour drive to the nearest city.

I’m open to american cars, but I love the reliability of Toyota and Honda.

Also, is it just me or are the interiors of the small SUV’s really cheap and uncomfortable compared to what the same makers put in their cars?!

Thoughts, suggestions, advice anyone?
I am serious about making a good decision.

In summary, 4-6cyl with good acceleration and decent mpg. Room for my dog Max (boxer). Comfortable for long trips with lots of crap. Not too fancy… I’m a country girl. Holds value. 4WD a bonus!!

Voting Question: Dealing with the pain of death?
About 8 months ago my sister in Tennessee ( I live in Oklahoma ) calls me to tell me that I need to call my dad because he doesn’t look well and she doesn’t know how much time he has. This scared and upset me right away so I called my dad. He answers the phone sounding healthy and fine and after calming myself down so he could understand me, he assures me nothing is wrong and my sister is “crazy” (let me add I’m his only child) Not wanting to risk believing him since I know he would not want to worry me, I have been trying my best to call him when I can and write him when possible. I am broker than broke at the moment and have been for the past year. I can not even afford stamps, barely able to pay rent and bills which are always weeks late due to not making enough money. I cant afford to go see my dad which is killing me because 8 months down the road hes telling me he feels bad and that something isnt right. He wont go in vivid details but only says hes “having tests done”. Hes 71 years old and has always been in such good shape and health for his age and doesnt even look 71. I cant believe that he would suddenly be sick and thats how it feels to me..sudden. It’s killing me inside thinking about it all that I cant even sleep or think about anything else. I have not seen my dad in 3 years, before that i hadnt seen him in 2 years. We have a long history which is kind of rocky and Im worried that he may not know how much I love or care for him. Hes all I have and as such Im all he has. He has no family on his side and he never married my mother so they dont talk. My sister only speaks with him when he calls her to inquire about me. So basically hes all alone and has no one which kills me even more. I would not be able to live with myself and dont know how I would continue to live if he was to leave me without me being able to see him one last time and to tell him that I love him. I just dont want him to leave alone, no one deserves that, least of all him. But theres one problem.. no money. No car. Im basically stuck in Oklahoma with no means to getting where I need to be, if only to see how he really is. Since Im not sure how serious this is , I could be just thinking the worst, but hes my father and I Cant take the chance of not believing in the worst right now, especially with my family telling me to “get in touch and connect”. Thats enough to scare anyone. I guess my question is, what do I do? I dont even have a phone to call him on a daily basis. Only phone I have is my boyfriends work phone which is supposed to be used only for business, but cause of the situation he is allowed to let me use it once every month or so… How can I get to my dad? Also when the time does come and he does leave..what will I do? I dont think I can handle this all by myself. As Ive said he has no family. My family on my mothers side doesnt care for my dad and could care less what happens to him. So its not like anyone will join me at his funeral…thats gonna hurt so much. I dont know the first thing about these things as Ive never lost a parent or a loved one nor had to take care of things after the death.. what happens? Who do I call? What If I cant afford to have a funeral or a burial? He deserves more than just a flower on the ground somewhere. If he goes, I will be left with all that responsibility and I dont know where to start. I do not think he even has life insurance. I do not want to let him down. I want him to know that I will take care of everything and that I love him with all my heart and that even though it may seem like it, hes not alone. Im losing my mind and have no one to talk too. My boyfriend provides his work phone when allowed but thats as far as he can help, he doesnt know how to support me cause he doesnt know how to deal with death, those are feelings foreign to him. I feel so very alone and cant imagine how my dad is feeling. I wish I knew what to do.

…Sorry for this being so long.
I understand everyone feels different and deals with things differently so I excuse your complete rudeness and disreguard for how I am feeling, besides the fact you dont know the whole story nor can I fit it all on here. why is it so hard for people to be empathetic for others they do not know. I love my father and hes 71, and hes not in good health otherwise I would not have been warned, I am tryin to prepare myself but havent the slightest clue as to where to begin, i guess I was stupid to believe anyone would understand and try to be helpful, especially when my own family and bf cant… and yes, my bf doesnt understnad how to deal with death or the feelings one feels about impending death. Someone doesnt have to be dead already for death to be on the mind of someone. Its soon to happen and all Im wanting is advice. If you have no advice or help I may be able to find, Its ok I understand, but please refrain from leaving posts that may make matters worse.

Resolved Question: What happens with my auto-loan?
We have an 08′ Jeep Liberty and it’s horrible. We get 13.6 mpg in it. We are moving to Oklahoma and are coming back to our hometown so we plan to commute alot.

What happens to our $20,000 car loan if we want to trade it in and get 2 used cars. We would both look at spending around 10-11 on each car so our goal is to stay under or right on $20,000.

We only have one vehicle right now and it’s not working out.
Any advice?
